The cheek pieces prevent the bit from being pulled through the mouth & exert pressure on the side of mouth for additional cueing. Full cheek snaffles are available in a variety of mouthpieces. Using Bit Loops/Fulmer Keppers with a Full Cheek makes this bit into a fixed mouth and add some poll pressure, when engaging the bit. Bit loops also help prevent cheek pieces from catching on anything.
