New Style Notification: The End of the Velcro Era
By T. A. Eyo ¥
As we move toward a new, more progressive era in equestrian fashion, small changes in the design field are redefining what we consider to be standard. These minor innovations all push towards creating a more efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and overall convenient product. One of these small adjustments has to do with brands moving away from the traditional velcro leg closures.
The majority of brands have moved to an integrated calf, and there are a number of different varieties for consumers to choose from. Some have opted for a completely elastic lower leg. Other brands, like the WOW, with breeches available in our online store, utilize elastic inserts. WOW breeches feature the elastic on the back half of the leg to create a less bulky feel underneath riding boots.
2KGrey looks at the calf completely differently due to the fact that they are a crossover company. Their breeches are meant to have the same look as jeans, so the design falls somewhere in between a traditional pair of breeches and your favorite denim pants. They’ve done away with the velcro and went with a fitted pant leg that sits right around the ankle. It has that well loved slight wrinkle of jeans, but is slim enough to fit comfortably in a boot.
The changes made to the calves of breeches are a small but significant advancement; however, we recognize that maybe not everyone is fond of the new style. Where do you stand? Are integrated calves a no or a go?
